After almost 6 months of non stop activity in the studio, I figured it was time for a mini break. My good friend came down to visit for a brief stay-cation by the sea. Here are some highlights of my week.
The most perfect beach trip... it's been 2 years so I figured it was time.
High tea in Seal Beach.
Beautiful presentation at the tea cottage we went to.

The Iron & Resin Garage is the hippest store on Main St. and truly represents the best of Ventura by offering a unique selection of hand crafted, quality goods, made in the USA. Meditation Monday: Book worm....

I have always been a sucker for books....particularly old books. Even when I was younger I loved to place them around my bedroom in stacks as a make shift night stand or side table. Summer reading was one of my favorite past times and I can still remember the smell of the Ojai Library where my mom used to take us every week to pick out a new title. As I grew older, I kept most of the books that I had growing up and my collection has grown. I can't seem to part with them because in truth, they represent parts of my past and my journey to adulthood. They have become part of me and have made me who I am today.

I was considering recently the books that remain in our house and their direct connection to my identity. It occurred to me that if you are keeping books or things around you that do not reveal who you are, then you are living for someone other than yourself. This is simple but true. Have you ever been invited into someone's home that seemed to reflect a different persona than who you knew that person to be?

We all have aspirational goals of who we want to be or what we want, but if our creativity or work does not come from a place of truly understanding who we are, then we are not being authentic and whatever we produce is not as powerful as it would be if we were truly connected to who we were. We will produce a false representation of ourselves or of an idea we are trying to communicate. We will compare ourselves to others and their creativity, gifts and abilities and wonder why ours our not the same. I firmly believe that if we truly knew the beauty and uniqueness that existed in ourselves and believed in communicating that to the world.. we could change anything. The world is big enough for every gift and every talent to have a voice.

Run your own race.. be your own person... discover the gifts and abilities you possess. “Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire.” St Catherine of Siena

Picture Album....

The end of May was pretty busy here in the studio. We moved to a much better location and we are really happy with the creative space that we are now in! We also celebrated my birthday and the launch of some new designs. Here are some pics of what has been going on. 1. North African antique necklaces available for special order. 2. New studio details. 3. A new bracelet by Hillary Heydle J gave to me for my birthday. 4. Birthday flowers from a friend, champagne from my sister and my favorite scarf by Heidi Merrick.

5. My new Louie from ESSEX. The coolest site where you can design your own bag!

Picture Album..........

It's been another crazy couple weeks! Here is a glimpse of what has been going on......

No matter where I go I find inspiration. We helped friends pick out tile for their new house. I fell in love with Mr. Sun who reminded me of the summers I spent on Catalina Island as a child.
KINGS & PRIESTS had a trunk show at Hummingbird in Carpinteria and it was a huge success!
I have been cleaning out my closet for the past few months and I finally completed the project. Out with the old, in with the new! It's a new season... a new day.
I created new sandalwood bracelets and braided bracelets with African Christmas beads. I love color and there is nothing better than a strand of Christmas beads. They just make me happy.
I met an amazing woman and a true inspiration who has been creating beautiful jewelry for decades. She recommended this book and it has become my Bible the past few weeks. The pictures are amazing and it is the best printed source of African trade beads and adornment I have ever seen. I was so thankful for the recommendation as the history of the beads that are used are just as important as their beauty. I love learning more about them!

Picture album....

The past few weeks.... or actually the past month has been such a blur of activity. Here are some pictures of what has been keeping me busy.
A storm came to Southern California. I thought we were going to get carried off to Oz like Dorothy.
I met the most fascinating woman and made her a special collection of K&P bracelets. It was so much fun!
I started working on ideas for the fall collection and collaborated with a high school friend to improve K&P marketing.
Restocked my favorite Santa Barbara boutique with some beautiful gems!
Took J to the hospital for surgery on his foot.
Poor J.... Next month will be better!

Location location.....

Last weekend I took a trip down to Laguna Beach for a quick getaway. What an amazing place to live! I immediately called J and told him that we must move down to the OC at some point in our lives.

During my stay, I had the chance to meet with the fabulous Flora Hills, and as a result, KINGS & PRIESTS is now carried in her amazing boutique in Corona del Mar. If you are in the area and have a chance, please stop by to check it out and show your support. Our pieces will be in store in the next couple weeks!
